Circulation and Material Services

Circulation of Library Materials

In order to check out Grainger Library materials, all faculty, staff, and students must present a UIUC i-card to the circulation staff. All others must present a barcoded pink courtesy card, affiliated staff card, or ILCSO school ID card. Loan periods vary according to patron status:

Materials may be renewed by calling the Library Telephone Center at 333-8400, or by following instructions on the on-line catalog.

Copy Center

To photocopy materials and bill the charges to a UIUC departmental account number, ask at the Circulation Desk. A staff member can issue a Copy Card between 8:00a.m. thru noon, and 1:00p.m. thru 4:00p.m. Copying is self-serve and the account will be billed $0.05/copy. The first card is issued free, but replacement cards cost $5.00.

Microfiche Readers / Printers

Three microfiche printer/readers are located in the Grainger Reference Area on the first floor. All copies are $0.15 per page and the machines accept coins; machines do not take Copy Cards or university i-cards. Users with University departmental accounts may ask at the reference desk to charge copies to their accounts.

Photocopying

There are photocopiers available on floors 1-4 of the library. Copies may be made with a valid i-card, or a photocopy card. Photocopy units may be added to the cards on the first floor. Photocopy cards (minimum $1) may be purchased at the dispenser on the first floor. All copy machines reduce and enlarge.

Reserve Materials

Reserve materials are located behind the main circulation desk on the first floor. A searchable reserve database is located at the circulation desk for use by the public. Most Reserve materials can be checked out at the circulation desk for two hours. Patrons are allowed to check out reserve materials overnight beginning one hour prior to closing time. OVernight materials are due 1 hour after the library opens the following day.

Requests for materials to be placed on reserve should be submitted 6 weeks before the beginning of each semester. Please do not mail or drop off requests or material at the Circulation Desk. Bring materials to Grainger Room 164. Please prepare class notes, readings, and homework solutions, etc. by inserting them in three-ring binders and bringing subsequent additions prepared to be inserted in the binder.
