Library Resource Guide
for engineering design students
- Journal Articles
-
Engineers share information by publishing in magazines, research journals, and the
proceedings of conferences.
-
The most effective way to find information in journals is to use the Library's
article databases. (The library provides
A hands-on tutorial for learning the basics on how to search different article databases.)
Several article databases are useful to students taking any of the design classes. A site for simultaneously searching several article databases, the online catalog, and Google and linking the results to full-text articles is available.
-
A page providing information on searching specific articles databases, including database truncation symbols and search tips, is available.
-
When you search a database and find references to articles you wish to read,
copy the information in the author, title, source, and conference (if any)
fields of the records. Using this information, look in the library’s online
catalog to identify all libraries on campus that have the publication.
-
For quicker access to journals held specifically in Grainger Library, you can use
either the Grainger Currently
Received Journals database or the
Complete List of Grainger Journals database. Also, look at the
Full-Text
Electronic Journals Related to the Discipline of Engineering that are
available to UIUC students.
